Book Review on "IF WE LAST" by ISHITA BANIK
'If We Last' By Ishita Banik /Unbiased Review/
I haven't read any work of Ishita Banik and this makes it my first read. A young, beautiful female author who as of now,has three successful books published under her name.My first impression of the book just by its title "if we last" tells me its a romance novel. But, that cover wasn't sitting so well with that impression. Why those eyes?Pretty deceiving. Well wait, its not just a romance novel,a twist towards thriller?,or hint of horror maybe?
Lets see if I'm right, shall we?
STORYLINE:
If We Last is a story about Avipsa and Reyansh. Avipsa is a college student. Who is charming and beautiful. Reyansh on the other hand,is an engineer whose life is totally messed up. He is in that post break-up phase.Yes, that's a hard time I'm sure we all agree.
"Sometimes we are compelled to end a relationship, not because of it is toxic, but the closeness becomes more painful than the distance."
Reyansh & Avipsa met in odd circumstances & find out that they have this bond which is much stronger than friendship. In the process of getting Reyansh out of depression Avipsa comes across some mysterious incidents which break the calm and equilibrium of her life. The story has an “unknown stalker” who creates a lot of chaos in Avispa’s life. She experiences a turn of events you wouldn't expect to even imagine. When she explains these incidents to her friend, she also gets scared but eventually, she asks Avispa to check in with a doctor which leaves Avispa in shock.
The story is about two people with different backgrounds meeting each other in an environment which might be normal for everyone. However, it’s not that normal after all. While they continue to grow closer to each other, many things happen which add more drama in their lives, and excitement and curiosity arises in the readers minds.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
The book is well written, the choice of words is exceptional, a bit slow paced at the beginning but slowly yet surely things start to look up,in fact towards the end it really captivates its readers.
I was awestruck by the language, description and the story of the novel! About love ,betrayal and unforeseen aspects of life.It is full of suspense and totally unpredictable at every turn...I must say,one of the best romance thriller by an Indian author! so far.
The book is so emotional and tugs at strings of your heart while intriguing your mind with curiosity. It ain't no simple romance novel, the arc of the plot is more like a mystery with a gripping plot and art of storytelling.

"If We Last: After Crossing a Light-Year" by Ishita Banik is a romantic thriller based on urban relationships. It is a story portraying how young couples overcome heartbreak and then once again embark on a quest to search for love.Hence, it makes it relatable to the readers especially the youngsters out there.
The blend of the two genres is appreciable.I personally like that the book has been narrated from the 2 POVs; both male & female protagonist's. I adore the author's way of expressing Avipsa and Reyansh's emotions.
The author put so much detail into my mind that I felt like all this was happening right in front of me.Like I was watching a movie.
The romance is so heart-warming,I couldn't get much of the thriller aspect of the story as it is the 1st book of the series but I just wanted more of that thrill you know.
Mystery, is my genre I just did not get enough of that.It kept me hooked but then the book ended. I really want to read the sequel of this book. Thrill in this book is of a different kind,I am thinking what will be in the sequel. I am dying to know what happens next.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS:
Mystery, is my genre I just did not get enough of that.It kept me hooked but then the book ended. I really want to read the sequel of this book. Thrill in this book is of a different kind,I am thinking what will be in the sequel. I am dying to know what happens next.
The story runs at a good pace for the most part but it slows down 2-3 times I skipped a few paragraphs without fear of missing anything important. The character development in the first half of the book is pretty slow and it takes great effort reading the mundane lives of the characters while they are recovering from their breakups.
So, if the description could be pulled down a notch. I think it would really improve the writing style and climax.
In an attempt to release the second part of this book, the author has made the climax of the plot vastly unresolved. There exists a gap in literature throughout the book as the plot asks more and more questions than it answers. Given these limitations and drawbacks, the story is overall worth reading if one can adjust to its pace.
WHO SHOULD READ IT?:
This book will appeal to people who read romance fiction and crime mystery thriller. Also, the language is fairly simple. Surprisingly, I did not have to open the dictionary even once.Hence, anybody can read this one irrespective of the fact that your a Romance reader, or Mystery, you are Going To Enjoy This. You can trust me on that.
I can't wait to read the next book of this series. The book leaves its readers with some untold truth of life in between the lines which I really like.
"...I think everyone looks for that kind of permanency in this temporary life."
